In MEDiterranean Countries

International seminar “Natural Risk prevention in Mediterranean Countries: Challenge for the future”, September 23, 2010, Kalivia (Greece).

The five Narpimed partners attended a successful final project Seminar titled “Natural Risk prevention in Mediterranean Countries: Challenge for the future” held on September 23, 2010 in Kalivia (Greece) at the Amphitheatre of the Town Hall. This international seminar was hosted by the Municipality of Kaliva.

During the Seminar the partners disseminated the project results, such as the research related to a MANUAL FOR NATURAL RISK PREVENTION IN THE EUROMEDITERRANEAN REGION, to the target audience which consisted of Local and Regional Authorities of Attica Region (GR) including the department of Civil protection, Local NGOs, Volunteers of Civil protection teams, Fire Brigade staff members, National Foundations, Local Associations, Universities and academic researchers, Rescue teams of Greek red Cross, etc.

This seminar was attended by more than 50 participants from 4 Mediterranean countries (Italy, Spain, Greece and Turkey). A representative of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of the Republic of Turkey attended this event as guest speaker.

In 2 technical sessions, almost 20 power point presentations were presented.

In addition there were almost 10 posters that were placed in the Municipality premises.

Proceedings and Presentations will be made available on the Narpimed web site as soon as possible.

The partners of Narpimed project would like to thank the Municipality of Kalivia for the warm hospitality shown by the staff members and all those who helped the whole project consortium with the organization of this final project event.

Partners and participants reiterate their interest and special willingness to build a real sustainability of the project and therefore to

  1. continue the cooperation after the end of the EU funding related to Narpimed project;
  2. promote the planning of new collaborative projects between Narpimed consortium members and new associated organisms;
  3. promote the project to stakeholders by Internet, as well as appropriate dissemination of project information to selected officials or decision-makers, for example the Operational Manual for risk prevention, the project newsletter and other articles.

At the end of the seminar and the day after (September 24th 2010), the partners and participants attended a really successful Simulation exercise which took place at the Municipality of Kalivia Premises. Additional information on that event will be made available on the web site soon including pictures.

Training Presentations

2010 NARPIMED 2nd Intensive Training Course:
“Good practices, methods and procedures to avoid or reduce natural disasters in the Mediterranean Countries”.

The 2nd Training program for those in charge at civil protection centres and Local Community Representatives is one of the project tasks related to Work package 2 “EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCES: 01.11.2008 – 06.06.2010” and ACTION B.4 of NARPIMED project.
The training course took place in Granada on June 28, 2010.

The number of attendants have been 98 (of the 106 initially enrolled) added to the participation of the 21 teachers of the course.

The participants belong to the eight provinces of Andalusia and Murcia, mostly belonging to Emergency Services (Civil Protection provincial managers, technicians of County Councils, 112 technicians, firemen and wildfire fire-fighters, Civil Protection responsible of municipalities, as well as regional and national leaders and representatives of Civil Protection).
We have managed to convey a cleared and structured valuable information to Civil Protection technicians to implement the overall and strategic objectives initially set:
The overall objective: to contribute to reinforce the quality of Civil Protection services in the Euro-Mediterranean region and to continue institutional cooperation in the field, between the EU and the Mediterranean Partners Countries (MPCs).
The strategic objective: to promote the coherence among the different civil protection actions undertaken at national and international level, reinforcing the cooperation with some Mediterranean countries, such as Algeria, Turkey and Morocco (European added value).
We believe that the main objective has been achieved:
offer to the participants the opportunity to share good practices, methods and procedures in order to avoid or reduce natural disasters in the Mediterranean Countries.
